An all-terrain hike will take you from "Vieux Moudon" to the forest and, after a nice walk of less than 3 hours, to the villages of L'Abbaye and Rossenges. The second, more leisurely, part of the walk takes you through the fields to Bressonnaz, then along the Broye to Moudon.

From the station of Moudon, you join the "Vieux Moudon". A Helvetian and then Roman village, the judicial capital of the Savoyard Pays de Vaud (1263 to 1536), and then a Bernese bailiwick (1536 to 1798), the Upper Town of Moudon boasts a rich history and a unique built heritage, which is classified a site of national interest.

The next part of the hike takes you through a wooded area, a driveway and then a path in the Péquinsin natural forest reserve. A relatively steep ascent allows you to reach the villages of L'Abbaye and Rossenges. Don't miss to take a look at the Upper Town of Moudon during your ascent, the viewpoint is worth it! These two villages form the highest point of the hike.

The second part will be a gentle descent in the direction of Bressonnaz, punctuated by countryside landscapes and small passages in the forest. In Bressonnaz, follow the Broye river to Moudon. The hike ends quietly and gives you ample opportunity to admire the richness of the fauna.

Point of interest

 

1.  Musées Moudonnois

Located at the top of the Upper Town, the Moudon museums of "Vieux-Moudon" and "Eugène Burnand" contain treasures and witnesses of daily life in Moudon and its region over the centuries. Both are housed in former 16th and 17th century mansions built by the aristocratic family of Cerjat.

2.  Ville-Haute

The small market town of Moudon sits in the curves of the river Broye and is lulled by the cool waters of the river Mérine as it flows below the cliffs on which is perched the “Ville Haute” (upper town). The upper part of today’s rue du Chateau is the oldest sector with its archways on the houses and the large surviving tower, a remnant of the ruling lord’s fortress. It also shows several similarities with the towns of Berne and Fribourg.

3.  Réserve forestière naturelle de Péquinsin

Since 1974, Péquinsin has been classified a natural forest reserve. Reserves of this type are not subject to silvicultural interventions. Left to their own devices, they promote biodiversity, allowing for old forest stands, rich in large trees and dead wood on which a very large number of species depend. Its magnificent beech forest is also noteworthy.

4.  Piscine de Moudon

The outdoor pool of Moudon welcomes you during periods of warm weather (from May to September) to enjoy a swim in the river Broye. With its slide and pools, it is very popular with families and offers you a time for relax.
